VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (June 25 through June 29)

We need your help Centenary!  The VBS’s mission this year will be to put together school kits for needy children. Below you will find a list of the items needed to complete one of these kits:

1 pair blunt scissors, round tip only (No plastic scissors)

3 pads of paper (spiral or top bound pads, 150 sheets of loose leaf may be substituted for 1 pad--combinations of the 3 acceptable)

1--30 centimeter ruler (hard or flexible, cartoon characters acceptable. NO ADVERTISEMENTS.

6 unsharpened pencils (NO ADVERTISEMENTS, RELIGIOUS, PATRIOTIC, MILITARY OR CAMOUFLAGE SYMBOLS--cartoon characters acceptable)

1--2 1/2 inch eraser NO ADVERTISEMENTS, RELIGIOUS, PATRIOTIC, MILITARY OR CAMOUFLAGE SYMBOLS--cartoon characters acceptable)

1--24 count box of crayons  (NOTE: 24 count only)

Also, there is a special school sack that you can sew to hold the above-mentioned school supplies. We are looking for several capable individuals to sew up the sacks for us.  They are not hard to sew (cut it out, sew a few seams, plus the handle (or velcro closure), and sew the handle on).  Wanda Lambuth is spear-heading the sewing of the school packs.  If you are willing to sew some of these call her at 684-7469.  The pattern is still available in the church office. There is almost 3 months till VBS--let's see how many we can get sewn.  We usually have about 100 children to attend VBS. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we had 100 kits ready! Thanks!

CHILDREN’S CORNER

We have ONE more exciting weeks in the CUMC Children’s Bible Studies.

The children are divided into three different groups - the 5th-6th grade boys, the 4th-6th grade girls, and all K-3rd graders. These groups are meeting from 5:30-6:30pm. We have had a wonderful response from the children about these studies – the one hour format for both dinner & activities/studies seems to be working really well.

5th-6th grade boys

This group is following the No Girls Allows Boys Bible Study. Charlie Lewis, Brad Fortinberry, and Jeff Daughdrill are leading this study. This study focuses on topics that preteens face at school, home and with their friends. This class meets in the Library on the third floor of the church. Please drop off & pick up your son from this room.

4th-6th grade girls

This group is following the After God’s Own Heart bible study. Laurie Lewis and Melissa Fortinberry are leading this study. This study focuses on topics that preteens face at school, home and with their friends. This class meets in the Fesmire class room at the back of the sanctuary. Please drop off & pick up your daughter from this room. The study will conclude with a Father/Daughter Dinner on May 23rd – Laurie & Melissa will send out more info on this event!

K-3rd graders

This group is using Large-As-Life Bible Adventures study– and are experiencing what it might have been like to actually have been there when major Biblical events occurred. Last week Don Magee played the role of a Roman guard – and the children performed wonderfully when asked if they would renounce Christ! The next four weeks call for the children to see/participate when Jesus appears to his followers as they fish, Elijah confronts the prophets of Baal, Jesus calms the storm, and men bring their friend to Jesus for healing. This group is also creating a Worship Book about CUMC and their faith.

The K-3rd grade group meets in the Fellowship Hall and then moves about the church depending upon the activities. This means that we need two or three parents to stay and help the leaders ensure that the group moves around safely inside/outside the church. If you are willing stay, please let us know.
