Twittering the Psalms This Summer

Ken Carter, Senior Pastor, and the congregation of Providence United Methodist Church, Charlotte, North Carolina, invite you to join them in reading and praying the Psalms over 90 days, beginning June 1.

Twitter is a social networking platform, sometimes called a "microblog," that allows users to post short messages (no more than 140 characters) to each other, in real time, and to respond to other users online or directly if they chose.

Each morning and evening, Ken or others will post questions or reflections related to each of the Psalms to be read at that time. They supply the prompting. You supply the version of the Psalms of your choice.

Two advantages Twitter brings to this project are global reach and mobility. Each day's entries can be reached over the internet from any computer with a connection. And "tweets" can be received and sent via cell phone either as text messages or via mobile internet connection (http://m.twitter.com).

If you miss a day or a time, no problem. Twitter keeps a record of all entries from the church and the project participants, so you can go back in the timeline, find what you missed, and catch up.

The project, called Summer Psalms, can be found at http://twitter.com/summerpsalms.

Centenary's mission is to be disciples of Jesus Christ who grow disciples in Jesus Christ.

Centenary's vision is to be a spirityal family; guided by the Holy Spirit, reaching out and accepting everyone who will respond into the fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ, nuturing them with unconditional love and preparing them to join us in going forth to invite others into the family of faith.
